HAPPY NEW YEAR and SPRING IS ON THE WAY!
As the holiday season draws to a close, we wish all of you a wonderful 2017. Here at the Imperial, the season is already turning: the daffodils are starting to poke their noses up from the ground, and we can't wait to see the wildflower displays that surely will follow the abundant fall rains we have had (thank you, rain gods!).

Last year Daffodil Hill opened in February, earlier than usual, but after one weekend was pretty much rained and snowed out. We're keeping our fingers crossed for this year and will keep you posted on the opening date.

COMING SOONER THAN YOU THINK
It's not too early to start thinking about it Valentine's Day! The busiest day of the year for restaurants. We'll be serving a special 5-course pre-fixe dinner with champagne in addition to our regular menu, so check with your sweety and make your reservation early.

WINE EVENTS
The results of the 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition will be announced in mid-January, and we will scurry about to bring in the best Amador wines from that competition to serve at our (sixth!) annual SF Chronicle Awards Wine Dinner on Friday, February 3rd. As soon as we have the wines in-house and the menu created, we'll send out an email, but don't wait if you want to stay with us that night as our rooms fill up fast for this event!

Blends are the hot thing in wines these days, and for good reason: winemakers use their skills to create wines that combine the best of several varieties, often resulting in some extraordinary tasting experiences. On Friday, March 10th, Le Mulet Rouge winery will showcase their blends at a wine dinner at the Imperial. Winemaker Tracy Hart will be on hand to provide insight into the how and why of blending.

And speaking of blends, Corinne Moore at Wine Tree Farms here in Amador City holds blending classes for those of you who would like to try your hand at creating your own personal blend. The classes this January are scheduled on Sundays starting at noon. You'll come away with a whole new way of appreciating wine tasting plus your own custom-blended bottle! Sign up at winetreefarm.com. Gather your friends and combine this adventure with one of our special room packages below.

Amador Vintners' Behind the Cellar Door barrel tasting weekend will happen on March 4th and 5th. Information and tickets at amadorwine.com. And our neighbors to the north in ElDorado County will be holding their Passport Weekends on April 22-23 and 29-30, see more at passporteldorado.com.

Looking down the road a little farther:

Amador Four Fires on May 6th celebrates the four distinctive wine regions that inspire Amador winemakers and winegrowers: Southern France, Italy, Iberia and "Heritage California", pairing the wines with regionally-inspired, open-fire dishes presented by renown chefs. Proceeds from this event benefit the Amador County Fair Foundation and its Fair to Future Initiative. Tickets at www.amadorfourfires.com

The always sold out Barbera Festival has moved to the fall this year. It will be held on September 18th at Terra d'Oro winery. Check out the website at barberafestival.com.

The second annual Mother Lode Highland Games will take place at the Amador County Fairgrounds on June 10th and 11th. Last year's inaugural event was proclaimed by attendees as the best Scottish festival in the area. In addition to ancient celtic athletic events and bagpipe competitions, there will be tasting of Amador wines, locally brewed beers and whiskey. Check it out: themotherlodegames.com.
